Craft & materials
Junctions tell the truth.
Anyone can hold a straight edge in the middle of a wall. Craft is what happens where floor meets wall, where ceiling changes height, where cedar passes a corner. That's where we spend our care.
The palettes
Six families we build from.
Cedar
European oak
Schist stone
Poured concrete
Wool & linen
Native planting
Craft, concretely
Four details we're proud of.
01
Scribed schist hearths
Stone cut around steel, not steel boxed around stone. The chimney in the Cambridge Residence took three templates and was worth every one.
02
Invisible overhead junctions
Where a cedar ceiling passes plasterboard, a shadow gap does the meeting — crisp on both sides, forgiving of seasonal movement.
03
Full-length oak runs
Boards selected and sequenced so grain flows unbroken down the home's spine. The joiner chooses; we just make sure the room's ready.
04
Weathered corners
External cedar corners woven rather than mitred — so ten years of sun opens no gap.
Why it ages well
Specified for New Zealand light and weather.
High UV, salt air, and wet winters kill finishes that photograph beautifully overseas. We specify coatings and species with local track records — and we maintain what we build, which is the real test of a palette.
Verification note: on a live client site this page would carry product datasheets and warranty documents. In this concept build, the material library is illustrative.
